Spring Showers Bring Wedding Bells!

I love the sound of thunder in the middle of the afternoon. It calms me. It sounds odd saying that thunder calms me, but it really does. I love our building during the spring. Our entire building is windows so I get to see all the action when storms come through. Pretty great if you are a weather freak like me.

This week is going to be exciting because Brooke is getting married on Saturday! I am traveling to Edmond Wednesday afternoon for a final dress fitting for my bridesmaid dress. It is beautiful. I would expect nothing less from Brooke! I'm trying to get in some serious workouts this week so I can still fit into the dress. I get paranoid since I don't physically have the dress and can't make sure it fits right now. Anyway, I'm so excited for Brooke and the wedding. It's going to be fabulous.

In other news, I became CPR certified last week. If you ever go into cardiac arrest or just need a little help breathing I'm your girl! Also, Tennessee lost so my bracket is shot. No worries though, I'm still leading the Lucky 13 pool at work. There is still hope!

Happy Spring!

I've become so bad about updating and I have decided that is OK because I don't think that many people are suffering from my lack of posting. Kody and I got back from skiing with my parents last week. We went to Winter Park and had a blast. One of my dad's residents was there on vacation with his family so we spent an afternoon skiing with him. It was great for Kody to get to talk to him about resident life and all that good stuff. We celebrated my mom's birthday. I'm sure skiing was just what she dreamed she would be doing on her birthday! She is getting so much better every trip. I'm very proud of her. I believe Kody, my dad, and I conquered the mountain. There is no mountain that can tame us! I can't wait to go next year, but we are going to have to see what Kody's schedule is like since he'll technically be out of classes by then. Crazy.

Tuesday night I was officially named next year's OSU SAA president. I love being the president of things. I think that is my true calling in life. Anyway, I'm really excited about it because it keeps me involved and helps me meet a lot of new people. I really hope I am not taking on too much. I'm also currently interning with the League of Women Voters and I have be toying with the idea of taking some nutrition/science classes at the community college here in Tulsa. I know, I'm ridiculous. I love school and I love learning. My dream is to someday be able to be a trainer in some form. I think it would be great when we have kids so I can "stay home", but also continue to work and be involved in something I'm passionate about. Anyway, that is my new idea. Who knows if I'll follow through on it. I also decided a year ago that I was going to go to culinary school. That obviously hasn't happened, but I guess never say never!

In other news, tonight is a BIG night for my bracket. I have the potential to get seven of the eight Elite Eight teams correct. I still have all my final four and championship game teams in as well. I could win some big money at work...not that I like to gamble or anything. hehe I really just enjoy winning and if that means that I have to accept a prize in monetary form then so be it! If Tennessee loses, however, please don't talk to me.

Today is by far the most beautiful day of the year. I'm leaving work to go play outside with Bailey. I hope everyone has a splendid day!

Someone is Always Watching...

Today during lunch I worked out in the gym in the basement of our building. This is nothing new, I generally do that a couple times a week. It usually happens when I am too lazy to get up at a decent hour to get it out of the way in the morning. Today was one of those days. Oops. :) Anyway, I finished changing and was heading to the elevators to head back to the office. A man walked out of the men's locker room, but didn't see me. No big deal...I just followed him around the corner back to the elevators. He was dressed in gym clothes and obviously just about to start his work out. All the sudden, he takes his left hand and shoves it down the back of his pants and starts scratching away. I was so embarrassed because I hit the elevator button and it "dinged" and he saw me. I turned around quickly to play it off like I didn't just witness him scratching himself while walking down the hall. I wonder what I have done when I thought no one was around? That scares me a little. Just remember, someone is always watching so don't shove your hands down your pants without making sure it is all clear first!

I can't believe it is March already. That means it is almost time for summer which means I can start getting semi excited about Christmas. WOOHOO!

I'm Kind of a Big Deal

I, along with 32 million other people, watched the Oscars Sunday night. I don't particularly care that much about them, but my normally scheduled Sunday evening TV was pre-empted because of them so I didn't have much o fa choice. Plus, Kody wanted to watch Family Guy all night and I simply cannot watch more than one episode of that show at a time. It is dreadful. ANYWAY, as I'm watching, they go through all the awards that not a lot of people care/know about like cinematography, sound effects, blah blah. The Bourne Ultimatium really cleaned up in those categories. As the unknown masters behind the great effects were giving their acceptance speeches they thanked the usual people: their families, their co-workers, and other names no one knows. Then, my attention was sparked when the winner thanked Frank Marshall (producer) and Matt Damon. It suddenly dawned on me that I have met and have had conversations with both these gentlemen. Then I continued to think..."I wonder how many non Hollywood people have had conversations with two people mentioned in the same Oscar acceptance speech?" For a moment, and only a moment, I felt pretty important. That soon passed though because I also realized that neither one of them would have a clue who I was today! It sure is fun how reality brings you right back to earth. I'll just have to make sure I congratulate both of them on the wins if they make it back to OKC with Mark Harmon this summer. Good times.

On a completely different note, Robin's boyfriend Matt has been deployed again for the ninth time. She has no idea where he is and when he'll be back. He couldn't tell her anything. He is a SEAL and what they do is incredibly dangerous. His group is one of the most elite in the Navy. Please keep Matt, his family, and Robin in your prayers. They were both supposed to go skiing with us in a couple weeks, but now we don't know what will happen. Please pray for his safe and timely return.

Happy Valentine's Day

In honor of Valentine's Day, here are a few fun and maybe not well known facts about this glorious day that celebrates love. :)

*In Medieval times people who couldn't write their names signed with an 'X' in front of a witness. The 'X' was then kissed to show sincerity. Many believe this is how the 'X' symbol became synonymous with the kiss.

*A solid majority of men, some 75%, claim that they plan ahead for Valentine’s Day, even if they don’t make the actual purchase until the last minute.

*While we only know the heart shaped candies today, when they were first introduced, these imprinted candies were typically made into such shapes as horseshoes, baseballs, watches and even postcards, and they often sported messages that were far longer than the short and sweet ones we know today.

*The manufacturers of these candy hearts introduce at least 10 new sayings every year, including “Puppy Love” and “Call Home”

The Legend of Cupid

According to Roman mythology, Cupid was the son of Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. Cupid was known to cause people to fall in love by shooting them with his magical arrows. But Cupid didn't just cause others to fall in love - he himself fell deeply in love.
As legend has it, Cupid fell in love with a mortal maiden named Psyche. Cupid married Psyche, but Venus, jealous of Psyche's beauty, forbade her daughter-in-law to look at Cupid. Psyche, of course, couldn't resist temptation and sneaked a peek at her handsome husband. As punishment, Venus demanded that she perform three hard tasks, the last of which caused Psyche's death.
Cupid brought Psyche back to life and the gods, moved by their love, granted Pysche immortality. Cupid thus represents the heart and Psyche the (struggles of the) human soul.

Happy Valentine's Day!

My Vaccum and Whatnot

I used to think our vaccum was horrible. It always made me mad because I couldn't believe we registered for a worthless vaccum. I read all the buyer reviews online before we picked it out. I was very careful! I started to think that people who rate items online are just idiots and completely unhelpful. I never wanted to complain since it was a wedding gift and I should be grateful and all that jazz. Anyway, Saturday, I discovered after almost two whole years that it isn't the vaccum that is stuipd, it is me. Yes, I am an idiot and I will freely admit that to the blogging universe or rather the four people that actually read this on a regular basis. It turns out that HIGH carpet is not the setting you use for carpet that is covered in dog hair. You use HIGH carpet for carpet that is tall. LOW carpet is not used for carpet that is not as dirty, but rather carpet that is not as tall. Somehow I missed this during my high school and college education. They really should have a class on how to use household appliances. I also just recently learned how to use my coffee machine. Finally, after two years of frustration, I now know how to get a remarkably clean carpet using my fantastic vaccum! Thanks Bissel.

We are still waiting to find out about Kody's rotations. He was supposed to find out two weeks ago, but apparently the company the school is using is not too concerned with time limits. I'm so anxious for him to find out 1. so I can know 2. so he can plan his elective rotations and 3. so I can finish the life plan I have already started in my head. I thrive on time limits and deadlines. If i didn't have them I don't think I could function. I need structure! Kody just doesn't seem that concerned. I don't understand why. Here is a typical Kody/Ginny conversation about the topic:

Ginny: "Kody, did you find out about your rotations?"
Kody: "No." drinks his diet dr. peper while not taking his eyes off of Malcom in the Middle on TV
Ginny: "Oh my goodness, aren't you so upset that they haven't told you where you are going to be and when?" pacing around the living room
Kody: "No." takes another drink
Ginny: "Well, when are you going to know? Don't you have to know soon? Why haven't they told you? How are you supposed to plan out what you are going to do?!?!" insert panic in voice and freaky wide eyed bewildered look on face
Kody: "I don't know" continues watching Malcolm in the Middle

It is at this point that I remember that I am a freak and Kody is the exact opposite...which in turn may make him a freak as well, but on the other end of the freak spectrum. Together we make one perfect person, totally normal person.

In other news, if you live in the Tulsa area you must go to Copeland's. It could quite possibly be my new favorite eatery here in town. If you like seafood and cajun food you are in luck. Plus, they have pretty incredible looking bakery items that I have yet to try. Yum yum.

Super Tuesday!

I love the primary season. It is so exciting. I hope everyone voted yeseterday. I wore my "I Voted" sticker all day. It amazes me how so many people seem to not care about taking part in voting. People died for the right to vote and we take that forgranted. Kody and I spent much of the evening watching the primary results come in from all the Super Tuesday votes. Very exciting! I am going to be an intern on the board of The League of Women Voters in Tulsa this year. The Tulsa Young Professionals group runs a board intern program and we get to apply to be interns for a year. I was chosen and I am so excited about the board I was matched with. There is no better year to be a part of that group. I start in March. I am really looking forward to it.

This week is full of exciting days, not only was yesterday Super Tuesday and Fat Tuesday, but today is signing day! Yes, that is right, it is signing day for all high school and junior college football players. So far Florida has 12 of the ESPN top 150 recruites...more than any other school! They got the #1 and #2 safetys which they desperately need for the upcoming season. I'm very optomistic about their recruting class. Florida played Tennessee last night in bball. It was a great game until the last 10 minutes. I won't go into the final score, but it was ugly. Tennessee just wore them down. Poor Gators.
