Insomnia and M&M's

I haven't stopped yawning in five days. I'm not lying. It's pathetic. Exhausted. Spent. Done. I push myself until I can't go anymore. I love it though. I honestly wouldn't want it any other way. I'm off tomorrow so I have been putting in 10+hour days. Combine that with CrossFit (my new true love) and the heat, it has been one long, exhausting week. Last night was the first night since Sunday I have slept through the night. I have been suffering from slight insomnia due to the heat. Our house does not cool down until about 2AM. I have a fear that something is wrong with our air conditioning, but I'm so scared that I will be right and have to pay to have it fixed that I am scared to call to have someone come look at it. Oh the joys of home owning! Our CrossFit work out last night was horrendous in such a glorious way. It was the kind of work out that makes you question your ability the whole way through and then makes you feel like superman when you finish. It has been a long time since a thirty minute workout has brought me to my knees and made me beg for mercy. I loved it though and in some sick way I can't wait to do it again. Visit http://crossfitjenks.com/ for more details. Read up on Wednesday 7-30-08. Brutal. There is also an action shot of me on Monday 7-21-08 if you dare to look.

I achieved quite an accomplishment today. I jumped my first car. I was at lunch with one of my TV reps. Her kids left the light on in her car over night so she had to jump it this morning. Unfortunately, she had to do it again after lunch. Neither of us had done it on our own before so it was kind of comical. We kept repeating out loud "Black is negative, red is positive". Her car started and mine did not blow up. All in all I think we were pretty successful! Plus, we gave the lunch patrons of downtown Tulsa a good show and laugh.

Silly factoid of the day: I have vowed to only eat blue and orange M&M's in support of my Florida Gators through football season. We have jars of M&M's all over the office and I pick them out in pairs. I'm such a good and slightly sick fan.

When We Ruled the World...

My dear friend Angela inspired me to become nostalgic today...not that I need a lot of persuasion when it comes to that sort of thing. Angela posted her five all time favorite pranks that were pulled (by us) in college. http://mydogumentary.wordpress.com/ Please don't judge us.

It got me thinking about some of my favorite moments. Many of them are included on her list, but I wanted to share my all time favorite prank that was pulled during our senior year at OC. Let me start off by saying that my group of friends are pretty much legends when it comes to stories of OC pranks, but not many people know we are behind all of it. Like Angela said, we had to entertain ourselves.

One evening a group of us were sitting around thinking, "What can we do and whom shall we do it to?" We picked two of our favorite targets, Kelly Allen and Paul Ingram. We decided that they needed some help in the dating arena. We created these fabulous posters which looked a lot like "Wanted" posters you see for criminals. :) We wrote a little about what they liked to do and then listed their phone numbers for girls to call if they were interested in a date. We hung them up in bathrooms all over the student center and the girls dorms before curfew one night. Honestly, we didn't think anyone would ever actually call them, but we were hopeful. I remember getting an email or IM from Kelly accusing me (What? Me? No!) of doing something. He had three calls between midnight and 1 AM from freshman girls he didn't know! The next day went better than we ever could have imagined. We were all in chapel waiting for the guest speaker to start speaking. He walked to the podium and before he got into what he was there to talk about, he said that he noticed some signs all over campus with pictures and phone numbers of two guys looking for dates. He remarked how great it was that they were putting themselves out there. He went on to ask the "two gentlemen" to stand. Kelly and Paul stood up, a little reluctant, and waved to everyone. I have to say that it was one of the proudest moments of my life.

Here is a picture of some of the best pranksters I have ever met. I just miss the days when we ruled the world!

Help Winston!

I absolutely do not understand how people can hurt animals. It is pure evil! There is a boxer in Tulsa named Winston. Someone poured a caustic substance all over his back. He is currently receiving treatment from a vet and will be available for adoption after he recovers. You can learn more about Winston by going to the link below. You can also donate money to help pay for his medical care. Tulsa Boxer Rescue is non-profit so donations are vital to the organization. I donated because I felt like I had to do something. You can't look at the pictures of Winston and not do something. Of course, my little donation isn't spectacular, but I did what I could do for now. It looks like they rescued him on my birthday so I feel like I have a special bond with him now. Help Winston!

Also, I had the website address incorrect yesterday. It is correct in the post below now.

Boxer Rescue and Pictures

I am such a sucker for animals. I want to adopt all the ones that need homes, but I know I can't. There are three boxers from the Tulsa Boxer Rescue that need foster homes until they can find adoptive families. Obviously, we don't really have the time to be an adoptive family since I work and Kody is at the hospital all the time now. They really need to be in homes where they have supervision and love all the time. If you are interested in a new dog though, always look to adoption first! These are the best dogs. I want to take all of them. :)

I decided to post some pictures from our summer so far. I hope you enjoy!

We bought a outdoor patio covering for our backyard. It wouldn't fit in our car so we had to rent the Home Depot truck to get it to our house. I got to drive! I thought I was pretty awesome.

Kody studied outdoors every night for boards. He had quite a set up going. He is holding a citronella candle. The bugs liked him.

These are my beautiful birthday flowers that my wonderful husband got me. Bailey was not being too cooperative about taking a birthday picture with me. Our house is a mess because we were in the middle of painting our kitchen cabinets.

Honey stayed with us for a week in the beginning of July. Bailey loved having a playmate!

Happy Birthday to Meeeeeee!

Yes, today I am officially over the hump and on the downhill to 50. I am 26 today. I love my birthday. I generally celebrate for at least a week. It is kind of like Christmas. I like to extend it as much as possible.

Here are a few fun things that happened on my day of birth!
1661: The Bank of Stockholm issues Europe's first bank notes
1935: The first working parking meter is installed in Oklahoma City
1945: First atomic bomb test, in New Mexico, USA
1965: The Mont Blanc road tunnel, linking France and Italy, opens
1969: Apollo 11, the first manned Moon landing, launched
2008: Kody received the official notice that he passed the USMLE boards

Celebrities that share this fantastic day with me. Funny how they all speak to a different part of my personality and tastes. It is meant to be:
Will Ferrell (1967) Love his movies, I cannot wait to see Step Brothers
Ginger Rogers (1911) She is a phenomenal dancer...I love watching her
Orville Redenbacher (1907) I am addicted to POPCORN!
Shoeless Joe Jackson (1889) One of the greatest offensive baseball players of all time with an all time batting average of .356...amazing.
Phoebe Cates (1963) Starred in Gremlins...I love Gizmo.
Corey Feldman (1971) Two words...The Burbs

I hope everyone has a great day!

CrossFit

Kody and I have developed a new workout obsession. It is called CrossFit. Our friend Stephen Tidwell, who is a third year medical student with Kody, has been going for the past five weeks. He has been talking to Kody about it and telling him how great it is. Kody decided we should go try it out on Wednesday to see how we liked it. A couple other med students have been going as well. The minute we walked into the gym I was hooked. Basically you get a workout everyday and it is completely different everyday. You do it for time so you are basically trying to do everything as well as you can, but also as fast as you can to keep the intensity up. It's like a competition work out! If that doesn't scream my name then I don't know what does.

Our Wednesday work out was an 800m run, 21 pull ups, and 21 push jerks which are kind of like a combination of a squat and shoulder press. We repeated that three times. Trust me, trying to do three sets of 21 pull ups is NOT easy. The workouts are posted online so you know what you are doing before you get there. We go through a really good warm up that incorporates stretching, abs, dips, pull ups, lunges and squats. I can't explain to you how great it feels to really get my butt kicked in a workout. There are CrossFit gyms all over the country. Below is the link to the main website where you can find one where you live and also the one to ours so you can see what workouts we do! Yesterday's work out was crazy. I think today is going to be intense, but not so strenuous. I can hardly lift my arms over my head. It's a great feeling. :) Oh yeah, my time has beat Kody's every time so far, but he also uses a lot more weight than I do so I can't brag too much!

Tucson Time

Seriously, is it really almost my birthday? I can't believe how fast time is flying by. I say that almost every post, but it is true. I am completely blown away.

I was in Tucson, Arizona over 4th of July weekend visiting Robin. I had a great time. She took me shopping for my birthday. It was so nice to get to pick out some new clothes! I never let myself do that because I absolutely can't stand spending money. Sometimes, I just have to make myself, but in this case I just had to pick out what I liked and not pay. Now that is the way to shop! We did a lot of working out (shocking). I ate at my new favorite place in the world called, Chopped. It is simply phenomenal. You pick out everything you want in your salad and shop it up for you. I know what you are thinking, a salad is no exciting...but it is! You can put absolutely ANYTHING on it. It was fantastic! We also ate at this place called El Charro. The chimichanga was invented there...no lie! I didn't eat one, but I did eat a lot. They had the best Tres Leches cake. My mouth waters a little bit thinking about it....

We watched fireworks and just had a good time together. Robin is selling her house so I helped her clean. For someone who is very self sufficient she doesn't know how to clean kitchens and bathrooms well. It was funny. She took me to her base and I got to see the airplan graveyard. that was pretty incredible. It is just a huge stretch of planes that have been retired. They keep them at her base because Tucson has a perfect climate for the planes. It is just hot, but it is a dry heat. It is very different than Oklahoma heat. I'll post some pictures from my adventure within the next few days.

In other exciting news, Kody and I are putting in new granite counter tops in our kitchen! Once we decided to do that we also decided to paint and distress our cabinets and tile a back splash. I'm literally giddy over the whole thing. It is going to look amazing. A lot of work...but worth it! Who knew owning a home could be so fun when you get to change whatever you want! I feel so grown up now. :)
