Welcome Home!

Tomorrow Kody will return to Tulsa full time for a full month! I know, exciting isn't it? I'm actually going to see my husband every evening. I can't believe it has been two months that he has been gone. Sure, I saw him on weekends, but it isn't the same. Neither one of us are big "phone" people, so that was a challenge. Thankfully we are still hopelessly in love. :) Hopefully the last two months have been good preparation for his time in Michigan and Ohio during August and September. I'm going to miss him so much. So is Bailey. That dog loves her daddy.

During July Kody is taking a vacation monthly, but it will be anything but a vacation. July is board study month. He is going to be just as busy as he has been during other rotations. He takes Step 2 boards on August 11th. Everything is approaching so fast. So many deadlines, so many last chances. Our future is so unclear right now, but we are both very confident that it will all work out as it should just like it always does. Kody is also getting his CrossFit Level 1 certification in July. Very exciting!

In other news, Honey the dog (Kody's family dog) is staying with us this week while his family is on vacation. She is as cute as can be and so easy to have at the house. She sleeps through the night unlike a certain other dog that lives in our home that loves to jump on me endlessly while I sleep because she wants to chase a rabbit. Yes Bailey, I'm talking about you.

I was attacked by mosquitoes in Edmond this weekend. Yesterday I came to work covered in calamine lotion. The pink tint my skin had was just gorgeous. I am also starting to read "My Sister's Keeper". Has anyone read that? I have always heard it was good and now that there is a movie I thought I would go for it. Bandwagon! I also saw the New Moon trailer on Sunday before Transformers. Kody just kind of glared at me with annoyance as I giggled through the entire two minutes. Whatever...he will fall under the Twilight spell soon enough.

I can't believe things like this still happen. Wow. Apparently it is 1692 again.

Time For Yourself

A fellow blogger recently posted a great article on her website. We are both members of a group of bloggers who are married to medical students, interns and residents. It is our own little secret society where we share our experiences as we cheer our spouses through school and training.

Read This

This article applies not only to those going through medical training, but I think anyone going through life in general. Take a few moments to read it today. I know I have a tendency to get caught up in things I "have" to do and I have trouble making time for myself. I know Kody will experience that more and more as he gets further into his training. He is someone that loves life and loves to have fun. I pray that is something he never loses no matter how demanding his schedule becomes.

Last Twilight Update:
I watched the movie last night. I have to say I was a bit disappointed with Kristen Stewart as Bella. Don't get me wrong, I like the girl, but she was just a little too "hard" for me. I pictured Bella as shy and a bit unsure of herself, but also kind and hopeful. I didn't get that from Kristen. I think I would have been an AMAZING Bella. Don't you? Oh well. I still enjoyed it and I am looking forward to New Moon.

RIP

I thought it was over...but it isn't....MIDNIGHT SUN! Score.

On another topic, this weekend there was a baby mouse running around my parent's living room. Midori was very intrigued by the baby mouse. Bailey was only somewhat amused. Rookie, the cat, had absolutely zero interest. Doesn't that seem backwards? Granted, Rookie is sixteen years old, but he still kicks it like a five year old. He is quick on his feet and is as feline as any other fur ball you meet. We tried to get the baby mouse to run outside, but he was slightly terrified of the monstrous beasts and didn't want to leave the safety under the couch. We lost track of the mouse somehow. Reluctantly, I told my parents the next day. My dad said he had seen one a few days earlier. The house gets mice sometimes in the winter, but not usually in the summer so my mom didn't really believe him. HA! Anyway, they set out traps last night and this morning I was told that "multiple" mice were caught. I think it was a little family. I am sure the cute baby mouse escaped. He was quite quick! It didn't run...it hopped. Too cute. No one likes a mouse in their house, unless it is a cute baby mouse! I asked my mom to please not let me see any of the traps or give me details. It would be to painful to know too much about our destruction of the little mouse family. I asked her if it was a humane death and she said yes. Thank goodness. Now they are in mouse heaven where they will never have to fears cats, dogs or traps again. RIP.

Termites...Oh yes, I said It...

Yesterday the air conditioning in my office died. It was quite unpleasant. So unpleasant in fact that my boss sent us home at 1:30. Since I had a free afternoon I decided to be productive. I wasn't just productive, I was Monica Gellar/Bing productive. I mowed, edged, dusted, vacuumed, mopped, did laundry and managed to watch an episode of True Blood via DVD all before heading to CrossFit.

During these afternoon adventures I made an interesting discovery in my backyard...it seems we have termites. Yes friends, termites. I was unsure of the actual diagnosis until this afternoon. My bug man went over to investigate and called with the good news. Yes, I have a termite problem, but it is due to rotting wood which could be due to some sort of water damage. Double score! I noticed it while I was in the backyard mowing and edging. I saw about a 4'x4x area around the laundry room area that had a small piece of siding/wood that had cracked and opened up. I also noticed a trail of "mud tunnels" around the cracks of the exterior of the house in this area. I immediately thought it was either termites or some sort of water leak/mold. Turns out I am probably right on both accounts.

Don't worry...homeowners insurance does not cover termites or rotting wood.

The good news. (Yes, actual good news not sarcastic good news like this entire post): My bug guy came out right away this morning when I called him. He was awesome. They are going by tomorrow to treat the house and install a bait system. Normally, I would probably do more research on this type of thing. However, Kody is out of town all month and I visit him on the weekends. I don't have time to bring out three or four people to get multiple opinions. Plus, I trust these guys. They have taken are of us all three years we have been in this house. Frankly, I just want it taken care of ASAP. Next, they have a contractor that will come out and evaluate what the problem is that caused the wood rot and he will fix it and all will be golden. Doesn't that sound gross? Wood rot. Nasty. I promise my house is not gross. It is actually very cute and clean! My homeowners insurance told me to call back when I know what the deal is there because they may cover that. USAA has been super friendly and helpful. Thank you USAA!

I checked the entire inside of the house...no loose or soft walls, not water stains...hopefully the structural damage is very minimal. I guess another "good" thing is that the termites came because of the damaged wood. The termites did not cause the damage. I'm hoping that means the termite thing is fairly new. I have never noticed this before and I am out there all the time. I hope I caught it early! This is the good thing about getting in obsessive cleaning moods....you find problems and fix them!

Twilight Update:
I fully expect to finish the saga this evening. I feel like I should be shocked by things that happen, but I'm really not anymore. The odd has become normal. My heart is sad it is almost over. What a wonderful ride it has been.

Thief

I drove back from Edmond this morning. I got into my car for the lovely turnpike drive and found that Kody had stolen my Kings of Leon CD from my car for himself. Ugh. I am very disappointed in him. Just because he leaves the house at 5:15AM and I am pretty much unconscious and not capable of a real conversation does not mean he can take whatever he likes from my CD player. Ok, I'm not really upset about it, but I really hate being without my favorite CD's on the drive home. He is sneaky....

Happy Birthday Angela!

Today one of my bestest friends (yes, I said bestest) turns 27. I know, she is soooooooo old. She is a whole month and six days older than I am. I am so lucky to have a such a wise, mature soul to help guide me through life. To honor Angela, I decided to make a list of all my favorite things about her. Please feel free to add your own in the comments section:

1. She knows I love Mamba's...the best candy in the WORLD!
2. She helps throw NSYNC CD release parties. I have the video to prove it.
3. She taught me how to straighten my hair. (bless you)
4. She married a look a like of her celebrity crush. (Josh Hartnett)
5. She rescues dogs.
6. She is supportive of my Twilight addiction.
7. She listened to me ramble on and on and on and on about every boy I ever liked.
8. She was my online Family Feud team member during our summer "job" at the OC Fitness Center.
9. She emailed me this morning at 8:12AM to tell me Britney is coming to Tulsa. WOOHOO!
10. She let me throw her bachelorette party at a pole dancing "fitness" class. (best party ever!)
11. Even though we don't live in the same town anymore, we still talk all the time.
12. She gave me monkey cups and plates for my birthday one year.

Heat Wave

Oh my goodness...my office is a sauna. I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. I have literally almost passed out twice. I keep getting up to stand over a vent for momentary relief. Our building was built as a "temporary building" which has now turned into our permanent building. Sadly, they did not insulate our building at all when it was built. Our air conditioning has been blasting at 68 degrees for the last three hours, yet it still feels about 90. UGH! I also conveniently left my bottle of water sitting on my kitchen counter this morning. Dandy.

Twilight Update:
I'm planning on finishing Eclipse tonight. I didn't get much reading in this weekend which drove me nuts. Thankfully, I used my lunch hour today to catch up a bit. Oh how I love vampire engagements! What is with this lack of enthusiasm on Bella's part? She is such a odd girl sometimes.

I'm Bringing Bailey Back...

I finally have Bailey back! She has been staying with Kody at my parent's house since May 28th. I know, it has been so sad without her. Don't worry, I have been with her plenty. Since May 28th I have made four overnight trips to Edmond which includes weekend stays. Kody begged me to let her stay with him last week and I very sweetly agreed. I am pretty sure she is going to spend the next four days sleeping at my house. She is getting a very brief break from her dear cousin Midori. We are returning Friday evening. She better enjoy her rest while she can get it!

In other Bailey news, she finally LOVES water. Kody has been devastated the entire duration of her life because she does not like to swim. We have been taking her to the dog park in Edmond and she started to follow Midori into the lake. Now I can't get her to leave the water! She chases other dogs, swims out to retrieve tennis balls and she stands in neck deep water gazing at the scenery. Amazing. She doesn't run away from my parent's pool anymore when we all go swimming. She actually stands next to the edge to watch. She used to sprint up the stairs to the "safety zone" for fear of being thrown in the water. She had a right to be scared though, Kody almost always tries to get her in the water. This might be the summer of a swimming dog. We are so exited.

Enough about my dog for now.

My goal over the next two weeks is to get my house insanely organized. I say this a lot, but I feel motivated. I want Kody to have a clean office to study in during his vacation/board study month of July. In other Kody med school/rotation news, he still loves his OKC rotation. He has great things to say about the residents and attendings. There are two other students rotating with him. One is leaving next week and the other will be there the entire month with Kody. Of course he wishes he was the only one, but he is handling it well.

Medical School Countdown:
Twenty two days until fourth year starts.
Two months and three days until Step 2 boards.
Seven months and three weeks (ish) until Match Day.
Eleven months and six days until we become Dr. and Mrs.

Survivor

I will admit it, I almost sent in an application for the next two rounds of Survivor. They are shooting season 19 and season 20 late summer and early fall. I know, 19 and 20. Can you believe there have been that many seasons? Survivor has always made me angry. All the good players get kicked off by the weak ones. The way around that is to win immunity every week, which of course I would. Anyway, I have not sent in my application, even though it is half way completed. I need some motivation to finish it. I have come up with a strength and weakness list for myself:

Why I Would Rock on Survivor:
  • I'm super friendly
  • I'm ultra competitive
  • I'm deceivingly strong for my size
  • I like to think strategically
Why I Would Tragically Fail on Survivor:
  • I play too fair
  • I have to eat every two hours or tantrums are very likely (just ask my mom or Kody!)
  • I hate bugs
  • I am too trusting and would get tricked easily
So, what should I do? Should I go for it? Please let me know what you think!

Also, I asked Robin to try out for American Idol as a birthday gift to me. I thinks she is considering the idea. She feels like it is a lot of pressure, but I assured her that Simon would adore her. She is spunky and can sing.

Speaking of birthdays, Happy Birthday Nicole!

Irritated

Most days a lot of what I hear or read in the news makes me sad. Plane crashes, American troops killed, the economic downturn, etc. We all know what is going on, at least I hope we do. I refuse to be one of those people that is too disgusted by what is going on to not pay attention. There is too much at stake. This world is definitely changing and maybe not for the better in some circles, but I will stay educated. I think it is important. I want to be able to discuss Sonia Sotomayor and North Korea and have my own opinion. There are too many from my generation that don't have a clue what is going on overseas or let alone outside their own four walls. That is my little rant for the day.

Nope, I lied...I have one more rant....

I had to go to Oklahoma City last night to have my stitches taken out. YAY! I stayed in the night in Edmond and got to see Kody. Double YAY! I left the house around 6:45 AM today to drive to work. I was driving up the turnpike listening to Jack and Ron on KYIS (98.9FM). Normally I like them, they keep things light and funny. Nothing too harmful. Today I did not feel like that was the case.

A listener had written in and had a question. She just found out her husband of three years was addicted to Internet porn. She had no idea this was going on and he had confessed it to her because he wanted help to overcome the addiction. I'm not sure why she emailed Jack and Ron for advise, maybe because they are men and may have friends that have been through this sort of thing or had been themselves. Anyway, she asked them what they thought she could do to help her husband. I was sick to my stomach when I heard what they had to say. They started going on about how she obviously wasn't committed to the relationship because she didn't know this was going on. If she was, they said she would have caught him before he told her. They went on about how it was "probably" her fault because he was obviously missing something in the relationship and he should drop her (HIS WIFE!) and get a little "hot slice" somewhere else. I was outraged. I know it is radio and there is an entertainment factor, but I thought they seriously crossed the line. In no way is this woman responsible for her husband's addiction. I think it was brave of her husband to come forward and ask for her help and I pray that they find people that can help them in a supportive way.

Now I am done with my rants.

Twilight Update:
I read during lunch today. It just so happens that the portion of Eclipse I was reading today was taking place on June 4th. What is today you ask? Oh yeah, June 4th! What a coincidence! I have to say, I think Jacob is utterly annoying. He is so inconsiderate of Bella and Edward's love! Too much name calling...

Happy List

I have heard the barometric pressure is down today. Apparently it is making everyone sleepy. I feel like it is having the same effect of me. I can't stop yawning! I don't have anything that monumental or exciting to report so I am going to take this opportunity to make a random list of things that have made me smile in the last twenty four hours:

1. Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" (currently playing)
2. Kody's call last night after his first day on his ortho rotation in OKC. He sounded so excited!
3. Eclipse -book three of the Twilight Saga
4. Today's CrossFit workout. I get to max out on the snatch and a clean and jerk. I'm giddy with excitement. First time for these!
5. Quaker Chocolate Crunch rice cakes.
6. Twizzlers. It is a love/hate relationship. I pick one up with regret, put it my mouth and smile. They truly do make mouths happy.

My stitches are coming out tomorrow. I have been absolutely amazed there has been no bruising or swelling on my face. Amazing. He did a remarkable job.

HOORAY!

Gator Bait!

Tonight Florida and Washington start the best of three series for the Women's College World Series title. We made it out to Hall of Fame Stadium Friday night to see the mighty Gators take on Michigan. We sat in right field and it felt like home. I love right field. Anyway, yesterday Florida played Alabama in the semis. Bama would have had to be Florida twice to get to the title series. Florida was undefeated and it is double elimination. Bottom of the 7th, 2 outs, bases loaded and Florida is down 5-2. It sounds like a "No Fear" shirt, doesn't it? Ali Gardiner, first basemen and senior for Florida, was up to bat. She was 0-9 in the tournament. Oh frustration! I'm having trouble remembering if is was a 1-2 or a 2-1 count, but she hits a flippin walk off grand slam to left field. Opposite field walk off grand slam.....amazing. So, Florida won 6-5. Poor Alabama, they looked insanely shocked. Not a good feeling. They were up by three with two outs in the last inning. I'm sure their minds were thinking, "Alright, one more out and then we gotta get geared up for game two tonight!" That is the thing about softball, anything can happen and anytime. Fantastic.

Twilight Update:
I finished New Moon this weekend. I begin Eclipse tonight. I'm so very excited. A few things I have decided/questioned after reading the first two Twilight books:
1. I want to go visit Forks.
2. I have a thing for monsters.
3. I wonder if my blood smells appealing?
