In honor of Valentine's Day, here are a few fun and maybe not well known facts about this glorious day that celebrates love. :)
*In Medieval times people who couldn't write their names signed with an 'X' in front of a witness. The 'X' was then kissed to show sincerity. Many believe this is how the 'X' symbol became synonymous with the kiss.
*A solid majority of men, some 75%, claim that they plan ahead for Valentine’s Day, even if they don’t make the actual purchase until the last minute.
*While we only know the heart shaped candies today, when they were first introduced, these imprinted candies were typically made into such shapes as horseshoes, baseballs, watches and even postcards, and they often sported messages that were far longer than the short and sweet ones we know today.
*The manufacturers of these candy hearts introduce at least 10 new sayings every year, including “Puppy Love” and “Call Home”
The Legend of Cupid
According to Roman mythology, Cupid was the son of Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. Cupid was known to cause people to fall in love by shooting them with his magical arrows. But Cupid didn't just cause others to fall in love - he himself fell deeply in love.
As legend has it, Cupid fell in love with a mortal maiden named Psyche. Cupid married Psyche, but Venus, jealous of Psyche's beauty, forbade her daughter-in-law to look at Cupid. Psyche, of course, couldn't resist temptation and sneaked a peek at her handsome husband. As punishment, Venus demanded that she perform three hard tasks, the last of which caused Psyche's death.
Cupid brought Psyche back to life and the gods, moved by their love, granted Pysche immortality. Cupid thus represents the heart and Psyche the (struggles of the) human soul.
Happy Valentine's Day!

My Vaccum and Whatnot
I used to think our vaccum was horrible. It always made me mad because I couldn't believe we registered for a worthless vaccum. I read all the buyer reviews online before we picked it out. I was very careful! I started to think that people who rate items online are just idiots and completely unhelpful. I never wanted to complain since it was a wedding gift and I should be grateful and all that jazz. Anyway, Saturday, I discovered after almost two whole years that it isn't the vaccum that is stuipd, it is me. Yes, I am an idiot and I will freely admit that to the blogging universe or rather the four people that actually read this on a regular basis. It turns out that HIGH carpet is not the setting you use for carpet that is covered in dog hair. You use HIGH carpet for carpet that is tall. LOW carpet is not used for carpet that is not as dirty, but rather carpet that is not as tall. Somehow I missed this during my high school and college education. They really should have a class on how to use household appliances. I also just recently learned how to use my coffee machine. Finally, after two years of frustration, I now know how to get a remarkably clean carpet using my fantastic vaccum! Thanks Bissel.
We are still waiting to find out about Kody's rotations. He was supposed to find out two weeks ago, but apparently the company the school is using is not too concerned with time limits. I'm so anxious for him to find out 1. so I can know 2. so he can plan his elective rotations and 3. so I can finish the life plan I have already started in my head. I thrive on time limits and deadlines. If i didn't have them I don't think I could function. I need structure! Kody just doesn't seem that concerned. I don't understand why. Here is a typical Kody/Ginny conversation about the topic:
Ginny: "Kody, did you find out about your rotations?"
Kody: "No." drinks his diet dr. peper while not taking his eyes off of Malcom in the Middle on TV
Ginny: "Oh my goodness, aren't you so upset that they haven't told you where you are going to be and when?" pacing around the living room
Kody: "No." takes another drink
Ginny: "Well, when are you going to know? Don't you have to know soon? Why haven't they told you? How are you supposed to plan out what you are going to do?!?!" insert panic in voice and freaky wide eyed bewildered look on face
Kody: "I don't know" continues watching Malcolm in the Middle
It is at this point that I remember that I am a freak and Kody is the exact opposite...which in turn may make him a freak as well, but on the other end of the freak spectrum. Together we make one perfect person, totally normal person.
In other news, if you live in the Tulsa area you must go to Copeland's. It could quite possibly be my new favorite eatery here in town. If you like seafood and cajun food you are in luck. Plus, they have pretty incredible looking bakery items that I have yet to try. Yum yum.

Super Tuesday!
I love the primary season. It is so exciting. I hope everyone voted yeseterday. I wore my "I Voted" sticker all day. It amazes me how so many people seem to not care about taking part in voting. People died for the right to vote and we take that forgranted. Kody and I spent much of the evening watching the primary results come in from all the Super Tuesday votes. Very exciting! I am going to be an intern on the board of The League of Women Voters in Tulsa this year. The Tulsa Young Professionals group runs a board intern program and we get to apply to be interns for a year. I was chosen and I am so excited about the board I was matched with. There is no better year to be a part of that group. I start in March. I am really looking forward to it.
This week is full of exciting days, not only was yesterday Super Tuesday and Fat Tuesday, but today is signing day! Yes, that is right, it is signing day for all high school and junior college football players. So far Florida has 12 of the ESPN top 150 recruites...more than any other school! They got the #1 and #2 safetys which they desperately need for the upcoming season. I'm very optomistic about their recruting class. Florida played Tennessee last night in bball. It was a great game until the last 10 minutes. I won't go into the final score, but it was ugly. Tennessee just wore them down. Poor Gators.

The Beard-Off
Kody is currently in a "beard-off" with one of his friends from school. The winner is whoever keeps their beard the longest. Simple enough, except for the fact that my husband is starting to look like a mountain man. Items will soon be able to be lost in that thing. I don't mind scruff, but I do mind ZZ top facial hair. Anyway, the contest isn't strictly about who can keep the beard the longest. The contest is really about whose wife makes them shave first. That person loses. Most of the time when I think about a competition there is a prize. There has to be motivation to win. Ok I'm lying, I usually like to win just so I can say I won. However, if it negatively effects someone close to me (as Kody's beard negatively effects me!) I need a way to make it up to them by winning a prize. It is the respectable thing to do. This "beard-off" does not have a prize. In fact, it isn't a competition between the guys at all...it is a wife competition that I do not want to be in. I am completely torn at this point. I do not want a nasty bearded husband, but I also do not want to lose! What is a girl to do? My mind tells me win! win! win! My eyes, on the other hand, say throw the game. It is completely out of nature to want to lose, but I think at this point I have no choice. I will keep you posted.
In other news, my face has almost completely healed. I must have an amazing immune system. What a difference five days makes. I almost look normal again. I never knew I liked my face so much.

Ginny Down...
Tuesday I gave blood. I have given blood a few times before and have never had a problem. In fact, last time I gave blood I played in an intramural football game and ran three hours later. I'm sure that wasn't the smartest thing I have ever done, but I didn't have any problems. This experience was a little different. My work sponsors a blood drive in our building every three months. I encouraged a friend of mine from work to go with me because "It isn't that bad" and I was going to talk her through it. We went down and I got through all my preliminary stuff first. I got hooked up the the bag and it took about five minutes for me to give my blood. I laid in the cot for about five minutes afterwards relaxing because I was going to wait for my friend. I got up and went to the "recovery area" and ate a cookie and drank water. I started to feel dizzy and thought I might need a trashcan. :) I remember thinking I should say something about it and the next thing I know I am lying on a cot in the basement of our building with no clue where I am, how I got there, or what day it was. Apparently I fell out of the chair I was sitting on and landed on my face. This picture
was taken about ten minutes after the fall.
As you can tell I look beautiful with two nicely placed carpet burn on my face. I also had carpet in my eye. I ended up going back up to the office and heading home. My friend drove me home because I was really in no shape to drive.
Here is what I looked like on day 2(pink hat):
This is when the swelling set in. I actually landed on my eye and bone around my eye. I couldn't see very well out of it yesterday so I stayed home from work. It was my first sick day ever from any job I have every had. Kody started calling me his "domestically abused Ginny" which of course, isn't funny, but it definitely looks like something besides me falling out of chair happened.
Day 3 (blue shirt): Swelling galore! It is like getting my wisdom teeth out on the left side all over again. At least today I am back at work and can see a little better, although it still is kind of hazy.

Passing out is scary, especially when you don't remember ten minutes of your life. Luckily, other than looking silly I am ok. My blood is going to save three lives. That makes me happy. I will keep you updated on my healing progress.

Lazy Days
The ink on one of my stamps here at work smells exactly like the halls outside the pool at OCCC. It smells like I am walking to the cafeteria to get a bagel after warm-ups at a meet. Isn't it funny how one smell makes you think of things you hardly ever think about? Brains are funny like that.
Kody and I watched fourteen episodes of House Season 3 this weekend. Yes, we were that lazy and it was fantastic. We also ate at Red Robin twice and saw "Juno". I have to say it was a pretty great weekend! I watched two of Kody's hockey games. They lost both, but he played well. Playoffs are this coming Sunday. They are the last seed, mainly because they are win less so far this season. :) Maybe the playoffs will be their time to shine. One win would be nice...just one.
We are going to play in an indoor soccer league. I'm so excited. I miss soccer and I miss the competition. It should be fabulous. I love coed indoor. Good times.

Back in the Groove
My life has returned to normal, well, as normal as my life really gets. I'm finally back at home hanging out with Kody and Bailey, not eating out every night, and relaxing! Don't get me wrong, the holidays were great, but all the traveling just wears me down. I have needed some serious rejuvenation over the past week. I think I need another week of good sleep and I'll be back to normal! I got an iTouch for Christmas which I absolutely love. It has been such a blessing. I know that might sound silly, but it really has been. I finally was able to upload some of my cd's to it on Sunday night. I have about twenty on it right now. Most of them are some of my favorite cd's that are at least four or five years old plus all the Christian artists I have (including New Reign! YAY!) Anyway, the past three days I have been able to listen to it at work. I'm pretty much glued to my computer all day so it's nice to have my music. I cannot explain to you how much it helps to be able to listen to uplifting and positive songs throughout the day. It might sound silly to some, but listening to Christian music completely changes my attitude and outlook. Whenever I start getting stressed out at work or frustrated something in the song just helps me keep it all in prospective. Anyway, that's the only insight into my soul you are getting today. MercyMe "Undone" and Seven Places "Here Us Say Jesus" are two of the best cd's out there. Get them now.
I just finished eating a delicious grapefruit and now my pants are covered in citrus juice. Oops!
